French Starship
Hello,
I'm told by a visiting french scientist years ago that a klystron based nuclear powered photon rocket, launched about 1970, would have arrived in the Banard Star system by now. The object was a flyby with a camera and specrum of planets, there are at least three. The telemetry is very slow owing to the huge distance the signal has to travel and the low power of the transmitter. I think it used morse code with data sent as asci hex. Sent several times to give redundancy. It spiraled out of the earth's orbit over several years and eventually spiraled out of the sloar orbit with a low but sustained acceleation with a possible top speed of 1/5 volcity of light. Chris. |

France does not have a Scientist.
Nonesense. The French have built and tested a hydrogen bomb that does not use an atomic bomb for ignition. There are rumors of a hydrogen bomb the size of a mills bomb (hand grenade) that is just poweful enough to take out a tank. It costs about the same. A French scientist did all the stuff for modern stress analysis in construction engineering. CERN is French. Most of calculus was invented by French mathemeticians. Anyway science is a co-operative exercise and the French make a contribution as much as any other small country. The British use forced labour, remember the press gangs, well it is still like that. The idea of Britain being democratic, well it does not really apply here. At least the French eliminated their Ruling class. Even the simple action of rescuing a damsel from a frozen lake is a crime here, and if the fair damsel reports it she is imprisoned. Democracy... In Britain.... No chance... Bully boys .. Chris. |
