at Dynetics", he says. How many times have I told y'all that the
manned program isn't aboout exploring the moon or mars, but
about missile defense? How many times? So many political riubes
around here.

A public funded cold-war and obviously a number of very hot-wartime
economies is entirely within the scope and policy of what those in
charge intend to do, no matters what. Even Hitler would be impressed
by such results.

Why the hell would you continue to build the rocket if you cancel the
only payload intended for it?

The way our (manned) space program has been managed over the last
decade or so why does that strike you as odd?

TMEB is obviously onto something we don't know about yet.
Have you considered the possibility that Aries V may never get
built, leaving only Aries I as a cargo launcher?

;-) - Please take note... But then I *never* argue with TMEB...

"Are you onto something we don't know about yet?"
"My answer is: I think it is possible."
There was a article a while back about ATK wanting to get the go-ahead
from NASA to market a commercial varient of Ares-1 if they could find
anyone interested in it:

You are wise, mortal.
It's been acting up of late and not answering questions, so I had a peek
at the innards, and was surprised to see that it's powered by four
stacked hearing aid batteries rather than a single AA or AAA battery.
Apparently the Chinese can turn these batteries out for pennies apiece,
as I have a Chinise-made laser pointer with three of the same type of
batteries in it, and that cost $1.00 at a local grocery store.

But we already have better payload launchers.
