Russian Space Agency to annex Energiya-RSC, other space firms
The end of the independence of the old 'Korolyov Bureau' -- maybe now that the government's starvation policy has brought it to its knees, its submission will allow a more adequate level of funding. Will the loss of economic and corporate independence make foreign partners more likely, or less likely, to put money into Klipper? Where will Roskosmos get the money to buy out the minority stockholders, or will it bother to? The other groups listed, as far as I know, are already wholly government-owned entities. JimO www.jamesoberg.com Russian aerospace companies plan merger MOSCOW, September 1 21:10 [1710 gmt](RIA Novosti) - Russian Space Agency Roscosmos and leading private and state-owned aerospace companies intend to merge into an association, a Roscosmos spokesman said Thursday. "An agreement and articles on establishing a new body are scheduled to be presented for approval by the heads of companies at a general meeting hosted by Roscosmos on September 9, " the spokesman said. "RSC Energia, NPO Energomash, OAO Kvant, KB Khimavtomatika, NPO Lavochkin, the Teplotekhnika Research Institute, and several other companies are planning to join the association," the spokesman said. |

Jim - is there any chance you could run down for those of us watching at
home what all these agencies *are*? It's very confusing... There was/is an overview at http://www.fas.org/spp/guide/russia/index.html but (a) it hasn't been updated in many years, and (b) the most important page for this post ("Contractors") seems to be missing in action. The page at http://www.globalsecurity.org/space/...a/industry.htm seems to be a bit more complete. I also have a manuscript here called "The Dark Side of the Moon Race: Political Decisions Behind the Soviet Lunar Programs", Peter Gorin, American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies, 28th National Convention, 14-17 November 1996 which has a nice summary of the relevant organizations in the 1960's, as well as a discussion of some of the politics then. However, I don't know whether this article, or other similar ones, can be found on the web or in libraries. Does anyone have something a bit more helpful? |
