Default Has Charlie Bolden signed his political death warrant?

http://blog.al.com/breaking/2013/04/...not_happe.html

Charlie Bolden just doesn't get it. A National Research Council report back in December stated that there is very little support in NASA for this POTUS' dream of a NASA mission to an Asteroid, and yet he's ruling out lunar return-even though those missions have a lot more support in the Agency. IF he doesn't realize that, care to bet that Congress steps in and tells NASA to start planning lunar missions?

Unless Congress passed funding for a manned lunar lander (presumably to
be launched on SLS), then there simply is no manned lunar mission
possible. My take on this is that Bolden is trying to "sell" missions
that would require little to no additional funding. If Congress doesn't
like the asteroid mission, then they need to "open their wallets" and
start funding a manned lunar lander (not an inexpensive piece of
hardware).

I wonder what a musk lunar lander would cost, to build and operate..

I should be interested in knowing how often any persons within
NASA have gotten into any trouble for going against a Congressional
mandate to put people on the Moon.

No, you just don't get it. There is no mandate for lunar missions
either.

It sounds like certain Congresscritters are trying to demand just such
a lunar mission after all. Time will tell who has the upper hand.

There's a move afoot in Congress to redirect NASA back to the Moon via
the REAL Space Act.

Which has bipartisan support, by the way: Both Dems and GOPers are listed as
sponsors of the legislation.

Correct: the bill is HR 1446. Eight sponsors; though there's only one Dem,
the other 7 are GOP, I imagine that the sponsors of this bill will have an
easier time in committee than Charlie Bolden will. If he thought testifying
after that FY 11 disaster was bad, this time might be worse.
