Update from OM
"...Quick update of sorts: they cut off the leg about 4" below the knee late
Tuesday afternoon. I slept most of Wednesday, and Thursday they put me through some initial therapy exercises. I now have a wheelchair, and they expect to get me into a fake leg in about 6 weeks or so, depending on how the stump heals. ....The stump is giving me problems, tho. I'm getting constant cramps that are attempting to force the knee to bend despite the cast that's there, and some of the cramps last 10 minutes or more. I've got a morphine on-demand attached, but I'm finding that a flow rate of 1.5mg every 6 minutes doesn't help. The Soma is supposed to reduce the cramps, but not very much. Dunno how long they're going to keep this cast on, but at least the leg's not swelling. ....The good news? My blood sugar levels have been great since the infection was removed. Which ****ed off the diet Nazis to no end, as it allowed the doctors to remove the "diabetic only" restriction from my diet card. Hah! OM" |

My sister was just diagnosed and she cannot control her blood sugar as she lacks the self-disipline to stay on a diabetic diet. She always had a sweet tooth for candy and soda pop. |

She always had a sweet tooth for candy and soda pop. Unfortunately, a sugar laden diet is one of the contributing factors for developing diabetes in the first place. That sort of diet seems to be the norm in the US with sugar laden pop being the drink of choice at every fast food joint in the nation. Jeff -- A clever person solves a problem. Sounds like they didn't amputate any of his ornery-ness!
Here's hoping that his "power suit" leg puts him into top form. /dps |
