Eliseo,
My computer could not open the file supplied by your
link but I will recheck the data for Aug 14, 18h.
If you could fill me in on the error I would be most
grateful since my spreadsheet is still a work in progress.

Thanks,
Ben

Eliseo,
I rechecked the data and it was the same as that
entered. Did you set the date for Aug 14.75 (18h)?

Ben

Hallo!

Sorry but I don't use a speadsheet for astronomical computation. My
preferred sw is SOLEX ( http://chemistry.unina.it/~alvitagl/solex/ ).
It'is a powerful numerical integrator very accurate and therefore
useful for the predictions of occultations, eclipses, transit and so
on.

During this year we can see only an occultation of Vesta by the Moon
but not for London (and not even for the Europe).

I calculated again the geocentric circumstances. There a

Conditions of minimum geocentric angular distance (within 2.000ø)

Date TDT Dm m1 m2 tm(s)
2007/12/12 21:30:12 0.38211 -9.0 7.8 3431 Moon - Vesta

Where Dm is the minimum (geocentric) distance expressed in degrees; m1-
m2 are the magnitudes of the two celestial bodies, and tm(s) is the
max duration (in seconds) of the "eclipse". Now You can see the
graphic solution obtained with Solex 9.12

http://cjoint.com/data/iukkoaboHF.htm

Note that the "shadow" will be visible but only in the southern
emisphere.

Best regards.

Eliseo

PS.:
You can read many examples, explanations of algorithms, and a lot of
predictions of asteroidal occultation (but mainly in italian language
(sorry!) into the following site:

Gesu, Maria i tutti gli Santi!

That is one impressive apparatus and I didn't even
know it existed. My Italian is not quite competent
but it's worth reviewing just to look around this
application. Thank you for calling my attention to it.

I didn't mean to imply that the Moon would occult
Vesta anytime soon - this cropped in Sciastro.amateur
the other day. I just put Vesta in the posts because it's
such an easy binocular target.

Sincere thanks,
Ben

Program SOLEX has been completely written in English. Also the
technical handbook is written in English. The program works only with
the operating system Wndows but not with Linux.

Yes, sure!

Sincere thanks,
Ben
