artifact found with google sky
"Wouter" wrote in message ... Hi, This is what I found with google sky. Who knows what it is? A satellite, plane? location: 0.027622°, -18.9346° Wouter Looks like a green line with some spots :-) Though to be realistic, it is most likely an aircraft of some sort. Bob |

Bob So this dotted line is maybe accidentely created due to a long exposure time of some telescope while an aircraft was passing the exposed region of the sky? Still a wonder why a green line with dots, a flash light? I had to 'scroll' deep into the google space to see it. Is the size of the line with dots realistic having an aircraft flying an altitude of ~10km or so? I know very little about the way telescopes process data and the last time a used proper mathematics to solve a problem like this is 20 years ago so never mind :-( Wouter |

Wasn't it Wouter who wrote:

However, remember that deep space images are taken with separate red, blue and green exposures which are merged into a colour photograph later. Anything that moves and flashes will appear as a dotted line on one colour channel. For example, a tumbling satellite in a high orbit might produce a short green dotted line. -- Mike Williams Gentleman of Leisure |
