Recent additions to the Washington Double Star Catalog
In the past it was diificult for astronomers to be certain if a pair
of stars was just a line of sight arrangement or if the stars were gravitationally linked. As more information became available it should have become easier to sort the astronomical wheat from the chaff by, for example, considering proper motion. It seems strange that some recent additions to the catalog are quite clearly (only) line of sight pairs and I am unclear what was gained by including them since they are of no astronomical significance whatsoever. Three candidates for deletion :- http://www.martin-nicholson.info/why...hisabinary.htm Problems in Washington :- http://www.martin-nicholson.info/1/3cc.htm |
