But if there are four of you in the car you're only paying a quarter of the price each and therefore a quarter of the tax. Are you nuts? do you take up a collection among the passengers to pay for it? This signature is now the ultimate power in the universe It's a car pool. The whole point of it is to share your journeys. So you only use a quarter as much fuel as you would otherwise unless one of the pool is a freeloader. Cartoon #2 in this link is relevant to the discussion: http://www.cartoonistgroup.com/subje...l+Cartoons.php Riding four to a car is less convenient, often more stressful, less safe than driving alone, depending on the circumstances. AEBE, the journey is usually of "lower value." Maybe peterson "car pools" to his astronomy club meetings? Can a rich warmingista travel in the car pool lane if he and his chauffeur are the only persons in the limo? Can a parent drive in the carpool lane with just his/her young child in the car? |

Incorrect. Since most people don't own/use cars to any great extent, if at all, and since the world average CO2 is still too high (if you believe in that sort of thing) then the typical car owner is indeed a hypocrite if he argues for a reduction of CO2 emissions. Not me. I haven't driven my car in months. I have my showfer drive me most places. And that hints at exactly the sort of loophole that a warmingista such as peterson would use. Commercial vehicles (limos) might be exempt. Result: the rich and those with connections are not affected. Rural dwellers such as peterson might be given a break on fuel used for traveling to town, but a typical city dweller wishing to drive anywhere would pay the tax. As Orwell said, "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." No loopholes in Britain except biodiesel and farm vehicles vehicles which have tax free "Red diesel". If red diesel" is found in a road vehicle the user will be fined and/or the vehicle confiscated. https://www.gov.uk/government/public...-road-vehicles There are all sorts of loopholes if you know where to look. Carpool lanes are one possibility, along with various income tax deductions, tax credits, subsidies, etc., and of course the simple fact that Owl Bore and his ilk might not be particularly bothered by a $100 per gallon tax on fossil fuel. I presume that $100 per gallon gas would cramp your "style," perhaps even making your carbon-intensive trips to a different hemisphere unaffordable. |
