Default replacing an equatorial mount

How easy is it to get hold of & fit a replacement mount on a scope? I have a
fairly ropey mount on my 6" newtonian & was wondering how to go about
replacing it - surely as the scope is simply a tube, it's just a matter of
getting a new mount with the correct size 'loops' or whatever you call them
that go round the barrel?

You may get a shock if you really mean the whole EQ mount. It will probably be more than the scope
tube !

Im selling my EQ5 RA driven mount right now, and expect to get £160-£180 ish for it (but Im
combining it with an 80mm Short Tube scope so total is a bit more).

What size mount is it ? EQ3, EQ5, HEQ5, EW6 ?? EQ6 can be over £700 (ish).

The scoipe rings can be taken off the old mount and fitted to the new one.

Or have we got entirely the wrong end of the stick here ??

Best

Relatively simple -- if the mount you have and the intended new mount
both use dovetail bars to fix the tube rings to the mount, then it is
trivially easy -- even if this is not the case, it is usually just a
matter of bolting the existing rings to the new mount. At worst you may
have to get new rings or modify the bolt-holes in the rings you have.

What mount do you have and what mount were you thinking of replacing it
with?

Best,
Stephen
