Default ASTRO: Whale galaxy

WHale galaxy,
18 x 90 sec
10SCT at 6.3
No auto guiding
stacked in MaximDL
CS for some enhancement.
Had some trouble with the 6.3 reducer due to circels in de picture
(reflection of the primairy)
i produced a flat frome the original photo's in CS and substracked it.
it worked i think.

thx for looking

I think this is your best galaxy shot to date. Shows the obscuring of
the nucleus very well. Think you did a good job on those reflections.
I need to do the same with my Flame Nebula shot but there the
reflections were on top of the nebula making them harder to remove
without losing nebula as well.

Is the Hockey Stick next?

I need to redo mine of this galaxy. I was in the middle of a severe
frost problem due to extreme cold (below 30C outside temp). I had one
heck of a time with the frost streaks that were on the front of the
optical window and on the red filter. Why the green and blue filter
didn't frost I've not the "foggiest" idea.

Correct domain name is arvig and it is net not com. Prefix is correct.
Third character is a zero rather than a capital "Oh".

Thx Rick, yep the same for me for the flame, a challange for the clouded
evenings.
We have the heat to deal with here in holland and that is pretty unusual for
this time of the year.
I could not cool my camera enough to get neat pictures.
Hockey stick? tell me more pls..

The Hockey Stick is NGC 4656, it is thought to have interacted with the
whale, NGC 4631. I thought I posted it some time back but can't find it
on replayer though I can find the pictures my notes say I posted just
before and just after it. So in case I marked it as posted but then
didn't post it here it is, my normal data as shown by the file name.

It sometimes is called the 7 galaxy. Might have a different name on
your side of the Atlantic.

one other comment but for Dirk

Dirk, thank you for emailing your binary to me directly. Again, the
SBCGLOBAL server is not passing binaries from the Netherlands for whatever
reason.

Your image is pretty good and it is definitely moving in the right
direction...

Very good image Dirk.
I like "whale galaxy" better than "fishtail galaxy" which I have heard at
another place. Although "herring galaxy" would be ok too ;-)
