Default Fireball picture from Wales on APOD

A lot of discussion is going on in some meteor groups about this
image:

http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap031001.html

The text could make one think that the picture is showing the actual
fireball, but it's probably a meteor trail lit by the setting sun.

There are many questions and opinions by experts and people who are
trying to be as sceptical as possible. The strangest thing so far is:
why hasn't anyone else seen the trail or fireball? The pictures were
taken around 19:30 when quite a few people must have been outdoors.
Also, there weren't that many clouds in Wales at the time.

I would like to know if anyone has seen the fireball/trail or knows
someone who has.

I was starting to wonder if that was the case. Can you say where these
meteor groups are, please.

A radio ham friend Richard Ebbs EI2ID photographed two strange objects
which seem to be burning up in the atmosphere on September 23rd 20-10 local
time near Cork city, wonder if anybody knows what the objects are
The link is to the Cork Astronomy Clubs website where the image can be seen.

I cant find a record of the date and time of the Welsh picture, so the
image on the Cork Astronomy Club site may be of something different. I
understand that Richard Ebbs has mailed Jon Burnett to see if they are the
same.

As noted elsewhere, NASA have now revised the text describing the
picture reflecting the above view.

Al,

I can't find the image you refer to above - just going round in circles.
Have you a direct URL, please?

The Welsh event was photographed (according to the EXIF data) at
19:13:37 and 19:18:18 on the 2003-09-24 which are 4min and 41 secs
apart.

XnView can read the EXIF data if present. www.xnview.com
