Default Third data release: DEEP2 Galaxy Redshift Survey

The following is from Sandy Faber. There's also a press release at:
http://press.ucsc.edu/text.asp?pid=1615

We take pleasure in announcing the

THIRD DATA RELEASE (DR3)

from the recently completed

DEEP2 GALAXY REDSHIFT SURVEY,

which provides the most detailed spectroscopic census of the Universe
at z ~ 1 to date. The survey targeted ~50,000 distant galaxies in
four
fields in the redshift range 0 z 1.4 utilizing the DEIMOS
multi-object spectrograph on the Keck II telescope.

DR3 is the third public data release for the survey. Products
include:

* Fully reduced extracted 1-d extracted spectra from roughly
400 slitmasks.

* Two-d spectral images, which provide unique spatial
information on gas kinematics and extent along the slit.

* Current redshift and photometric catalogs for all
spectroscopically targeted objects. (Original BRI CFHT
images are available on request.)

* 100 additional slitmasks observed from May 2003 to
July 2005 and never released before.

* The first release of roughly 10,000 DEEP2 spectra from
the Extended Groth Strip (EGS), which is the location of
the AEGIS multiwavelength survey. Unlike other DEEP2 fields,
galaxies of all colors were targeted in the EGS, including
objects with expected z 0.7.

All data are available at the URL:

http://deep.berkeley.edu/DR3

There you will find details regarding the contents of DR3 and links to
all public data products available for download. The FAQ page answers
the most common questions regarding DR3. Please also refer to the
credits page on this website for a list of our sources of funding,
participating institutions, and how to acknowledge the use of DEEP2
data in publications.

WITH DR3, ALL ORIGINAL DATA PRODUCTS FROM THE DEEP2 SURVEY ARE NOW
PUBLIC. Future data releases will feature improved redshift catalogs
and derived data products (e.g., linewidths or EWs).

The first release of
AEGIS MULTIWAVELENGTH DATA
is also expected shortly.

DEIMOS spectroscopy is continuing in EGS through a Keck Large
Multi-year Approved Program (LMAP). The extension, called DEEP3,
will approximately triple the number of DEIMOS redshifts available
in EGS (to 18,000), target special populations such as MIPS,
Chandra and radio sources, deepen the survey to R = 25.5 mag,
and increase the quality of environmental information available
by nearly an order of magnitude. The timescale for completing
DEEP3 is roughly four years.
