Star Distances

Oh, great, and I thought I'm responding to a sincere inquiry. Turns out it was a waste of time. Oh, but I am being sincere. Tell me, isn't parallax the ONLY method that these star distances can be measured? There are variations on the theme, as shown at this web link, but ultimately the method is based on parallax, or, it depends on luminosities which are assumed from other stars which have been "measured" again by... parallax. Correct or incorrect? http://www.astro.ucla.edu/~wright/distance.htm Is anyone feeling a little queasy out there. See: http://www.mhhe.com/physsci/astronom...r23/23f23.html ...for a visual |
