Digital composite of the solar eclipse 99
Hello,
though it's been quite a while since the solar eclipse on August 11th, 1999, I only recently created a digital composite of my slides. On the composite, the coronal streamers come out beautifully. I applied the techniques that were described in several (not so recent) articles in Sky&Telescope on solar eclipse digital image processing. I was quite stunned at how much detail I could get out of the slides, that are included in my eclipse report on the 99 eclipse , which I had watched from Lake Balaton in Hungary. The picture and a step-by-step description of how I created it can be found on my homepage: http://home.t-online.de/home/Kreuer.Dieter I'm going to add a few pictures of Hale-Bopp in 1996, soon, and of the lunar eclipse of last May. Don't throw away your old slides and negatives! Digitize'em! -- Dieter Kreuer Dieter.Kreueratdirectbox.com http://home.t-online.de/~Kreuer.Dieter |

Excellent. I do like that. I had a look at the technique, but I need more
photoshop knowledge on how to add, and use layers I think. Cheers for now Kevin www.kevsmith.com "Dieter Kreuer" wrote in message ... I notice on your site (English) you refer to the May 31, 2003 eclipse as a
"total solar eclipse." You should change that to "annular solar eclipse." Howard Lester "Dieter Kreuer" wrote The picture and a step-by-step description of how I created it can be found on my homepage: http://home.t-online.de/home/Kreuer.Dieter |

I learned a lot by processing hundreds of vacation pictures. Actually,
there's no more bad weather in my pictures, unless I want to ;-) My wife hates me for manipulating the pictures so much :^) But learning how to use layers, layer masks, and how to select those parts of an image you want to are the most important things to know. I recommend that you buy a good book on Photoshop (can't give you a recommendation, because I bought one written by a German in German). You can get amazing details out of your pictures with Photoshop. I will put more pictures of Hale Bopp and the recent lunar eclipse on my web pages, soon. When the eclipse neared totatlity at 4:15 a.m. lokal time, it got quite bright, but thanks to Photoshop, I could subtract the blue sky and still produce a nice (if soemwhat grainy) picture. Thanks for the hint; I'll correct this.
