Default NASA?

John Schilling's large post reply to another poster in my post about
the first human flight to Mars pointed out that NASA can't now build
working spacecraft, and a lot of other post's have pointed out the
failings of the NASA structure.

So given all its failings and inability to do much what is NASA for?

You may find

interesting reading, although the formatting's a little hird to read. It
should answer your questions...

Nasa is for supporting the DoD to retain military superiority and to control
the gateway to space. Everything they've worked on gets cancelled when it looks
like it might help the us wishful taxpayers get into space.
Nasa doesn't and never will spell CATS. Sell it to the DoD and give us a true
commercial space agency.
