Astroday this Saturday in Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Looking for something different to do this Saturday?
Bring your family to join the Sheffield Astronomical Society at "Astroday" which takes place at Tapton Secondary school, Darwin Lane, Crosspool, Sheffield S10 5RG this coming Saturday, 10th March. This free event will include observations of both the Sun and the night sky, plus an indoor planetarium show. Hands on activities for all ages will include rocket launching, solar car racing and crater making. You will also be treated to a presentation from the well-known Sheffield astronomer Dennis Ashton, a Tour of the Planets and a remarkable 3D show. During the afternoon session we will be observing the Sun safely using specially filtered telescopes. In the evening session both Venus and Saturn will be seen through the society's large computer-controlled telescopes. These outdoor activities are obviously weather dependant. The event runs in two sessions, 1:00pm to 4:00pm and 5:30pm to 9:00, and you are welcome to come along for one or both sessions. The society has made sure there are activities for absolutely all ages ranges and we believe you will have a fun-filled time. The event is free but you will need to book your places. To do this you will need to either go to our website at www.sheffieldastro.org.uk and book there or phone 0114-294-1193 (Daytime) or 0778-518-5240 (Evenings). Hope to see you there.
