Default Russians screw up their Mars mission...AGAIN

http://www.spaceflightnow.com/news/n1111/08phobosgrunt/

What is it with these Ruskies? Phobos-Grunt was delayed for two years
because they couldn't finish it in time and now it still isn't working
properly! This is extremely embarrassing for Russia and Poetin and I'm
sure some of the scientists will be prosecuted as 'foreign agents with
the intent to cause embarrassment to Russia' or something to that
effect.

bad design low gain antenna cant communicate with earth, blocked by
stage that didnt seperate.....

so this fully fueled vehicle full of hydrazine will be returning
somewhere on earth......

imagine that coming down in a big city........

wonder if the us military will volunteer to destroy it to minimize the
risk.....

The sky is falling. THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!!!!!

It is a somewhat fair question. I mean we did use that as an excuse to
destroy USA 193 which only had about 450 kg of hydrazine fuel on it. This
has about 10x as much. So if one believes the reason for that, it's a valid
reason for this.

We can't. It doesn't belong to us.

Umm, BS Fred. We can certainly VOLUNTEER. Of course there's about zero
chance the Russians would accept. But nothing about us not owning it
prevents us from volunteering.

That would be a neat trick, since I don't believe they have any
current capability.

I suspect both the Russians and the Chinese would need to agree no?
