Yes. The gain of .000000000000001% more 'safety' is a comfort against
the near total loss of capability represented by replacing Shuttle
with Soyuz.

Yeah who needs launch boost escape

Just THAT would of saved the challenger crew.....

If it werent for killing people the shuttle would fly indefinetely, or
untill we ran out of them

I suspect Pat's idea was not to fly Soyuz instead of the shuttle, but to
have a non-shuttle rescue option available in case things go badly wrong.

Yup, although you'd need a few to get seven people back.
