I'm looking at buying a pair of binoculars for astronomy (probably 7x50 or

bins on them. Any help or opinions would be greatly appreciate.

Thanks in advance

Unless you are fairly young you may find that the 7mm exit pupil is a
disadvantage with 7x50's and that you are in effect really using 7x40's
but paying extra and carrying more weight around as a result.

Higher magnification also makes the sky appear darker and I reckon
10x50's are a pretty good compromise for a first pair of binoculars.
(usable as well for bird watching if you choose wisely)

Binoculars are rather personal items and you really need to handle them
to see if they feel right in *your* hands and comfortable for you to
use. It is no earthly good buying binoculars that experts review as 5*
quality if they are impossible for *you* to hold comfortably.

Indeed! I still consider the MK1 car roof one of the best elbow supports on the market. Prices vary considerably if one has to match one's growing stature with a new purchase each year. The vertically challenged may find the necessary sports model well beyond the reach of their pockets.

A crate may offer some temporary relief from heavy expenditure. Provided, of course, one remembers that they may well have to abseil back down in the dark. This is most easily achieved with the aid of a compass and headlamp.

Though one must insist that they always use a red filter. If only to avoid blinding the mountain rescue crew. Who are often called out to help with the (often slippery) traverse and vertical descent by the direct route.

Let's be careful out there, people!
