VIASPACE (VSPC)

VIASPACE Announces U-HUNTER Licensed From Caltech for Improvised
Explosive Detection (IED) System

PASADENA, Calif., July 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
VIASPACE Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: VSPC - News), a spin-off of Caltech/NASA's
Jet Propulsion Laboratory that transforms proven space and defense technologies
into hardware and software products that solve today's complex problems,
announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary Arroyo Sciences acquired
an exclusive license to U-HUNTER technology. Funded by the US Army Corps
of Engineers at Caltech/NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the U-HUNTER
technology was originally developed for inferring the presence of buried
explosives and explosive waste based on the exploitation of electromagnetic,
magnetic and multi-spectral sensors. U-HUNTER was extensively validated and
certified by analyzing remediation survey data from formerly-used defense
sites at McKinley Range, Umatilla, and Camp Simms. The announcement was
made by AJ Abdallat, COO of VIASPACE.

The project, code-named USCAN, extends Caltech licensed U-HUNTER technology
to a new generation of systems for rapidly isolating human suicide bombers
wearing camouflaged explosives on their bodies, as well as detecting subsurface
IED buried under roads using vehicle mounted sensors. The IED threat is a
common low-tech terrorist tactic that has become a major threat in recent
months, leading to an increasing loss of US military and civilian
lives overseas. U-HUNTER will provide an enabling capability for automatically
detecting signatures of ordnance (such as bombs, guided missiles, mortars,
mines, demolition charges, etc.), shrapnel from active and electromagnetic
sensors. Arroyo Sciences is developing both a wall-mounted and portable
capability for rapidly isolating a human suicide bomber wearing explosive
belts based on fusion of ultra hi-resolution thermal sensor driven by
U-HUNTER computational engine. On-camera software can make a screening
detection call in real-time and potentially isolate threats from 50-100 ft away.
