The famous Lake Berryessa "Glory Hole" (and no, noTroll,
it is not to be confused with your type, with the same name)
is a new concept in spillway construction. When the lake
reaches a predetermined level, the water simply spills into
concrete hole which extends under the dam and empties into
the after-bay. It appears that the Engineers of the Oroville
dam were too busy attending one of the harebrained Jerry
"Captain Moonbeam" Brown seminars on how to screw the
taxpayer without fear of reprisal.
It has been very busy spilling excess water this year, for the
first time in many years, and is a welcome sight to the water
starved Californians.
Too bad our State Engineering wizards are still stuck in the
mostly earthen dam construction method of the stone age.
On the other hand, they do have an almost unlimited amount
of tax payers to finance their screw ups.

Two things, this engineering concept wasn't developed at the time Oroville
was constructed. But most importantly, your trailer park serves as the
"Glory Hole" for the swage lagoon that surrounds it. When **** creek runs
high, the excess runs into your lagoon and when that fills, well, trailer
start to float.

Troll, I didn't really think that you had anything intelligent to

contribute other than your trite and blatantly dull and repetitive
regurgitations of "trailer park" word salad.
I do commend you, though, for recognizing what a "Glory Hole" was.
I'm sure it has a different connotation in the land of "Deliverance
Reenactments".

*** You ignorant hillbilly ... the Berryessa Dam was built around the
same time as the Oroville Dan, you clueless moron:

So much for the Engineering Concept not having been invented yet,
you cave dwelling rutabaga.

You are such a total turd. ".....built around the same time...." means
nothing with respect to the timing of final design and project approval.
Your engineering skills being limited to the insertion of two D cells into a
flashlight, don't suggest that you even know that Oroville could utilize
that concept. Not even Trump would tweet out **** like that.

There are different types of the dam

The embankment dam is not more archaic neither more modern

The choice of dam's type is in function of the local geology

We make the arch dams with concrete on the hard rocks

If we would made a arch dam with concrete on tender land, the water's
pressure is going to infiltrate to the dam's sides

It need so a very thick dam more 100 m at the base. 100 m with this bulk it
is impossible in concrete, so the dam is made with embankments. Furthermore
the embankment dam follow the land's move

This is the spillway in concrete which broke, not the dam.

Typically the engineers thought, "I'll be long gone off this project before this shoddy overflow spillway ever gets used."
