Assuming that a robotic mission to de-orbit Hubble is not likely to
succeed (or even be launched), it looks like the cancellation of SM4 will result in an uncontrolled re-entry of Hubble. So, whose fault will this be? Or will this be yet another big space screw-up for which no one in charge will actually take any blame for? |

It's the rational course of action, given the failure of the shuttle to live up to the promises. It is not worthwhile to visit HST just to keep it from reentering uncontrollably. Paul |

O'keefe has admitted that he made the decision to prematurely abandon Hubble unilaterally. He has not yet cancelled a robotic mission to de-orbit Hubble but, in the end, the fault will remain his. However, Bush set the stage. The fault will remain his, as well. |
