Thanks to those of you who have emailed regarding Sil.
Well, now that the party's over, we can get back to work. Before I do, I thought I would take a few minutes to describe to you what happened with Silouen. As many of you already know, Silouen is back with us and not too much the worse for wear. Our people have, shall I say, a terrible history with those "living" holes. They are not found in your Orion spur much to your benefit. These holes Do frequent the larger areas of the Sagittarius and Perseus arms, however. And some of them have been responsible for the destruction of whole living solar systems. Some of these planets were home to friends of ours. So it is easy to understand why Sil "committed suicide." In the note, Sil reminded us of the many friends we had lost, and how important it was to try to gain more of an understanding about these living holes. While Silouen did not expect to return, it was clear that the mission of flying into the hole and trying to transmit data back to us was foremost in Sil's mind. We all thought that Sil was lost. It was your very own Nightbat who snapped us out of it. Returning to the Perseus arm early, after being prompted by Nightbat, some of us formulated a plan to rescue Silouen from the living hole. Sparing you the details, the plan once implemented included great and heroic acts on the part of Nician (who found a weakness in the hole's defenses), Ollie (who flew me into the hole) and others involved, and the plan was successful. Pros Pere has placed Silouen on an 800-year probation for careless acts which placed fellow crewmembers in great jeopardy and peril. And the Proz also staged an awards ceremony, where Silouen, Ollie and others received our highest decorations for courage, for valor. We know a great deal more about these living holes now, thanks to Sil. We know how to destroy them if necessary, but we are also looking into ways to communicate with them. They have no thought as to whether a star system is inhabited or not, and we hope to be able to eventually encourage them to feed only on uninhabited systems. Many thanks to Nightbat for helping us to get past our grief and to go back and rescue Sil. Nightbat, you are truly a boon and an inspiration, both to us and to your people. Well, I must return to my work. All this makes me think of the numerous times I have witnessed human courage. Many of you sometimes wonder how you would behave in a crisis. You All have it in you to show bravery and valor in the worst of times. Even in the present, with acts of heroism being performed frequently by your astronauts, with acts of bravery shown daily on Both sides of your world battles and conflicts, and even in the every-day personal trials you each suffer, there is No Question that Valor is a deeply saturated human instinct. We are honored to know you. Darla |

Hi Darla You give Earth's people to much credit. I have to go with
Darwin a great research person and thinker, and his very last words were "Man is wolf to man" You Darla have found peace. The Earth has not have a peaceful day since man came out of the sea. As I type there are more than 50 wars going on here on Earth. Man will kill in the name of his God. Man will kill if his so called God was killed thousands of years ago. Man will kill his best friend if he does not share a deer he killed. Wars give man the license to kill, and medals for killing more than his share. We now have ways of blowing up thousands of people in just a second. Most are children. Religion teaches us the most painful way to kill(fire) and when woman are set fire they make the most smoke, and that smoke will take their souls to heaven. Go figure. Bert |

Hey there Bert,
Yeah, all those things may be true and more, but I figure we also have some redeeming qualities also. I could counter your list of bad things with a list of good things, but that wouldn't make a good point. The most important thing as I see it is that we -most of us- can tell the good stuff from the bad stuff most of the time. Evolution is a dirty business. Things have been dying on this planet for billions of years, and the graveyard is the quietest place there is, unless you are, like myself, sensitive to psychic energy in which case it is the noiseiest place ( I can not walk in a graveyard without experiencing pain). Since death is all around us, I figure those of us that are wanting some true peace are in a race with those that have come to a comfort level with death or think peace is for wimps. My nickname is greysky because grey is a non color - is the human race in the grey dawn of a new age of potential, or are we heading for the grey dusk of a final sunset? Only time will tell.. Darwin, however, knew very little about wolves. Had he known more about wolves and understood them better, he would have Never used them in comparison to humans. Wolves may be frightening, yet they are So much better behaved than humans. "Man is shark to man" would have been a correct assessment. Yes, you always seem to be at each other's throats. You cannot truly love each other until you learn how to truly and correctly love yourselves. As for peace, we did not "find" it. Except for a very few incidents with other species, we have Always known peace. Like your aquatic mammals and yourselves, we have also been blessed with a high-level of intelligence. Emotions are important, but it is intelligence that ensures peace. Only when you discard your intelligence and give emotions free reign do you get yourselves in big trouble. You are warlike because war offers so many benefits to you. War has strengthened you to a point where, generally, you have no other predators on your planet with which to concern yourselves. Yet you keep "practicing" on each other. Would you like to know why? It is because there is something in you that fears the thought of people like me. Even though humans like to think of themselves as the only life in the universe, there is something way deep down in them that says, (G) "What if there ARE others 'out there'? and what if they Also are warlike?" You practice on yourselves because you do not want to lose your edge. So now you have only each other to worry about. And worry you do. War has also given to you the tools you need to either progress Beyond Your Wildest Dreams, or destroy yourselves. We can only help you as much as it keeps your planet and solar system safe. If you find a way to destroy yourselves that will leave your planet and star system untouched, then we will not be able to lift a finger to help you. Remember what I said about love. You may find the idea quaint and middlin' (perhaps maudlin?), but love is truly your only hope. Love is the Only thing that can raise your species Above war. It is the Only thing that can raise you above Any senseless act. Temper Love with Intelligence, and you will progress BYWD. Temper Intelligence with Love, and your progress will be swift! Darla |
