UFO's now a thing

Just thought I'd nod at last night's 60 Minutes ack'ing UFO's are now a
mainstream thing.

Among the drip drip drip of leaks and Pentagon acknowledgements
over the past 5-10 years are news various objects and other weird
sh*t is regularly seen by military personnel around the world.

One pilot has said the number of unknown objects flying around
off Virginia is so intense these days they just ignore their daily
appearance.

While armchair experts have claimed all the vids released
in the past 6m are everything from batman baloons to Putin's latest
secret weapon, none of that really matches the facts.

In one recent official ack a semi-transparemt sphere ("they" have
various kinds of cloaking tech although some of it looks like
the stuff you see in some SciFi movies where the object actually
stands out against the background because of pixelization and/or
"edge effects") was seen by a Navy crew scream along then angle down and
enter the Pacific like it was the thing's 2nd home. The Pentahon announced
yest the vid was really taken by Navy crew.

In The Big Report supposedly to be releeased in Jun some are hoping for
bombshell news. Nick Pope was calling for pix of a 100 ft UFO that flew over
Scotland to be released by the US because the UK military destroyed all
their copies in their bungled cover-up.

But insiders say the report is set up for parallel layers of "need to know"
with only the basic levels to be seen by the public and all real secrets
remaining secret into the future.

Even the lowest level stuff might be still too secret to reveal.
And even if it is published it might just add to confusion
(maybe deliberately) given the US military's poor record of
getting each part of these kinds of multi-layer reports coherent
in any part. Or even the whole,

The data I can see at least supports the idea these objects are
run by (likely) more than one high tech group maybe one human
or a close approximation and one not really. One group may be
from "not Earth", but not necessarily outside our solar system.
UFO sightings come and go uncannily in coordination with planetary
parameters. The biggest correlations are against Neptune. But Saturn,
Uranus and even Pluto also ping. Presumably a lot of this could
be down to those moons-with-subterranean-oceans.

Some objects seen flying in the sky show hints they are not machines
at all but living beings. Some "aliens" and other cryptids claimed to be
running around the woods and even suburbia USA may not be living beings at
all but more like remote vehicles or robots. Please don't feed if
you see any -- the pilots could react negatively or the owners might
send you a bill.

And of course while the data doesnt support any of these things flying
FTL that is not to say one of the groups the local UFO people play with
from time to time are totally off the wall and come from a long
way off via FTL, "slider" and/or time travel capability.

It's a weird weird world and the fun is only just beginning.

For rational thinkers, UFOs are a non issue.

time ), however small the probability, there are still likely an
infinite number of planets with intelligent life.

BUT, due to the vast interstellar distances, the chance of meaningful
interaction with others is essentially 0 .

No, we've never been visited by aliens, aren't being visited now, and
never will be.

Correct. We are too far away. People can't grasp exactly how far that
is, sadly.

It's movie time in Science Class.
Popeye sits in the back of a boat with an electric fan
playing on the sail, apparently moving the boat forward.
The science teacher says this is of course impossible

when the sail captures the air. The boat cant be propelled by the method
shown in the cartoon.
But the science teacher has swallowed a simplified version
of the science and overlooked something.
If you sit in the back of the boat and throw a small ball mass m toward
the sail at velocity v the boat is pushed backward with change in momentum mv
and the ball moves forward with momentum -mv.
If the ball then "sticks" to the sail then that momentum mv is absorbed and
the net momentum of the boat returns to 0 and the boat stops moving.
But if the ball hits the sail and bounces off backwards with speed v
then the change in momentum is 2mv and the net momentum imparted to
the boat is mv.
Popeye is right, the science teacher is not.
