It will cost about the same as other APOs. Glass accounts for most of
the overhead of making an APO. The cost of glass is subject to the
price of energy and hence ever increasing.

Like i said before, the days of cheap hi-end APO's will never come! Its the
same for for big horsepower cars and trucks, ya gotta pay for big horse
power...

Hey Chas, what do you think is enough horsepower? 400, 450, 500+?

Agree on the Raytheon comments - that may be part of why the guys I was

visiting with were being cagy. It may well be a spin-off business, and
it may well not go very far. As I replied to Dan Chaffee, there may
only be a few of these incredible telescopes ever built and sold if the
profits don't come in. An even greater reason to try to buy one while
they can be bought.

I don't know about Raytheon, but Elcan used to be Ernest Leitz
Canada (spelling?), and they do have past expereince with
commercial/consumer optics - all high end stuff mind you.

i saw these APOs - last year, here in Canada. StarFest, at
Mt. Forest, Ontario, Canada, they were shown to the public. Skies
were not so great most nights, but what I got to see was very
impressive.

quick thoughts & observations;

1) just as good as any Apo refractor from A-P, Tak, etc,

2) just as expensive, if not more so, than any APO refractor
from A-P, Tak, etc.

3) I don't know who or whom, but somebody, somewhere along
the way involved in this project seems to have definite, first hand
experience/knowledge of amatuer astronomy. My gut feeling is whomever
developed these telescopes did NOT walk into the situation blind -
somebody did their research, and did a damned good job of researching
beforehand.

4) A lot of things they would NOT say, but overall, a geniune
interest in the product, and an honest and enjoyable willingness to
"talk shop" at StarFest about all things related to amatuer astronomy.

They seem to be taking thier time with this product, going
along carfully. This might be a good sign. Like I said, I do not
know the background into this project, but the product is most
impressive.

IMO, the product, as presented at StarFest last year, would be
sellable as is. I could see a few possible changes (for example,
offering with choices of different focusers - such as 2.7" or even 4",
like the Tak Pevtval astrograph) but the potential is there.

Hi Roland, i have a Ford Lightning with 450+ horsepower, and will soon have a
smaller S-10 with 380 HP!!!

Chas P.

Which one do you like better? My 1939 Ford Rod has 380hp, weighs 3018lb. It
needs more HP. Send me your Lightning motor.
