[fitsbits] MIME for compressed FITS?
On Tue 2007-05-22T13:42:01 -0700, Rob Seaman hath writ:
From a discussion on the VO Data Access Layer group: Comments on whether a tile compressed FITS image should require a MIME Content-encoding? No. From RFC 2616. The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) acts as a registry for content-coding value tokens. The recognized values of content-coding tokens are outside of the purview of FITS and require negotiations with IANA. The solution is for the FITS community to come up with a protocol for specifying what FITS features and conventions are in use in a particular file and/or HDU. IANA will not want to be bothered with what is basically a problem internal to the FITS community. We have to pull the log out of our own eye. -- Steve Allen WGS-84 (GPS) UCO/Lick Observatory Natural Sciences II, Room 165 Lat +36.99855 University of California Voice: +1 831 459 3046 Lng -122.06015 Santa Cruz, CA 95064 http://www.ucolick.org/~sla/ Hgt +250 m |
