Is there any such rule? I know almost all the postings are in English, but
I have seen other languages (and have even replied in them). Since his
posting was of interest exclusively to Dutch speakers, I think Dutch was the
most appropriate language for it!

I'm in favor of multiple languages in international newsgroups.

For those who want to know, he's saying: "Because English is predominantly
spoken here, I have opened a Dutch discussion group... to be found at
http://www.galaxies.nl..." (Without the Dutch dictionary at hand I'm a
little lost in the following sentence: "We still don't have much
....what?...")

Have fun (in as many languages as you like). Anybody want to discuss
astronomy in Latin?

I agree! there is no rule specifying a language to be used in this
newsgroup!
of course, posting in dutch, means that only dutch people will respond, so
usually, it is not really usefull, except when you want to adress
specifically dutch people, which was exactly what he did!

I will check out his forum.
