“ui” is not a vowel in Dutch, but a diphtong.

I feel better now, then.

I am not sure whether this is sarcasm, so JFTR:

“now” in English is pronounced /naʊ/.
“Kuiper” in English is pronounced /ˈkaɪpər/.
“Kuiper” in the original Dutch is pronouced /ˈkœypər/ instead, and /œy/
sounds slightly different than the /aʊ/ that you might have referred to.

However, there is at least one language that also has the /œy/ sound or at
least something very close: Scottish English, as in “house”.

The pronunciation of the name of the astronomer Gerard Peter Kuiper (b.
Gerrit Pieter Kuiper) is tainted by the fact that he was born in the
Netherlands, but lived most of his life in the Americas, particularly in the
United States of America where he taught at the University of Chicago.
