Default ASTRO: NGC 6819

NGC 6819 is an open cluster in Cygnus. This cluster is much nearer to
us than NGC 6791 at only some 7.2 thousand light years. Also it is a
quite normal cluster with one stellar population with the expected metal
content. But like NGC 6791 is far older than most clusters. Though its
stars all show an age of about 2.4 billion years. This is still very
old for a star cluster indicating it too has the mass needed to resist
the tidal forces of our galaxy tearing it apart.

Note the distant near edge on spiral on the far left. It is 2MFGC
15077. I can't find any redshift data. Closer to the cluster on the
same line is a pair of spirals at nearly right angles to each other. I
can't even find a catalog entry for them however. So no way for me to
tell if they are interacting or not.

Beautiful image Rick, the cluster looks great and even if you had not
mentioned it I would have enjoyed the small edge-on galaxy.
