Default Important anniversary today

Today is the 30th anniversary of the first Space Shuttle flight.

It's also the 50th anniversary of the first manned space flight.

And the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War.

I've never understood how war can be considered 'civil'.

You might want to check what exactly that 150th anniversary yesterday
actually was. The 150th anniversary of the first shots of the Civil
War happened a few months ago. Contrary to popular belief, the first
shots of the Civil War were not fired on Ft Sumter, but rather on a
ship sent to resupply Ft Sumter. Any Citadel Cadet would proudly
remind you of that. (After which you could proudly remind them who
won.)

....point being: Let's not sacrifice historical accuracy for the sake
of interesting coincidences.

If you ask a southerner, he might call it the War of Northern
Aggression. The winners write the history books.

The north, and therefore officially the US government to this day,
called it the War of the Rebellion.
