Tyson's always been a little too full of himself, but I stopped
taking him seriuosly about anything when 20 minutes of his Comos
ripoff was anti-Catholic hate propaganda based on . . . who knows,
but certainly not any historical events.

At this point, I wouldn't take his word for it on what day of the
week it is.

Opposing the militarization of space isn't loony, even if it is a political
stance one might disagree with.

On the other hand, taking Trump's "Space Force" seriously... particularly as he
seems to think that Russia is our friend (hey, bailing you out of your last

First, there is NOTHING profound about noting technology transfer or bleed from one discipline to another, or, "thank you, NASA, for ballpoint pens!" Second, Tyson isn't any KIND of expert on the militarization of ANYTHING, let alone space. He's just one more liberal who believes that because HE doesn't like an idea, it should be banned.

Tyson didn't identify him as a scientist. A major part of his heresy
was for supporting the new scientific understanding of his day. The
Church was killing people who advanced accurate knowledge. That was
Tyson's point, and it was well made.

quite what he said, and b) had *nothing* to do with his being
burned at the stake.

The Church *paid* for the Age of Enlightenment. Copernicus' (who
was an ordained priest, and could have been a Bishop if he'd wanted
it) book was dedicated to the Pope, which required explicit
permission from the Pope. It was only published (because Copernicus
knew it was more speculation than theory) at the request of a
Cardinal and a Bishop. The greatest debate (the written records
still exist) was over how to present it to the public in a way that
would reduce the amount of violent rioting.
