Beautiful image Robert! You probably have an ideal rig for imaging the comet now. For various reasons I've not had a chance for imaging, but I did observe Holmes using Kopernik's 20RC and an Orion 8" Dob last Friday. I had another short clear slot this evening (between snow showers) and got a look with my 20x80 binos. The comet is much bigger than a few days ago and I could not see the outer envelope any longer, or the off-center nucleus that shows in your image. The inner most coma is now distinctly elliptical in shape, the western edge is sharp, and the eastern edge is very defuse, again as shown in your image. I believe that I could just make out the gas tail - but it would take a 6-inch or larger to confirm that. George N |
