CNC machines are essentially free when you look at the
economics of mass production.

Then why won't they deliver one without a very large wire
transfer?

"Essentially free" doesn't mean "free", it means the value of
the products that can be made with one far exceeds its cost,
which can still be large.

For people who are, at best, sloppy with language and don't
know what words mean. And I'm being generous with that
description.

Only in the sense that you're applying it to other people,
instead of where it belongs, to yourself.

I know you are, but what am I?

Unfortunately for human workers, in certain settings, the costs of
implementing automated manufacturing can be more than offset by the
savings that result from employing fewer people.

Sorry for the misattribution... I thought I had selected Quad's message.

Rooftop solar should be part of all local ordinances for new construction just like toilets are required in all new construction. If you're going to aircondition your home in the hot summer months then it should be primarily fed by solar panels. Every large commercial/industrial building should have roofs made from solar panels. Solar shingles.

I was in Holland a couple of years ago and noticed that all the new
construction included solar panels. Not sure if this is by ordinance
or just a cultural shift, but they're clearly ahead of us.

It might be cultural. Holland is very cognizant of what happens if ocean levels rise. The rivers that drain thru Holland would back up and inundate vast amounts of land.

It is now almost certain that global temperatures will rise at least 1.5 degrees Centigrade. This will happen in approximately 5 years at our present rate of CO2 increase. The next level of 2 deg C will be reached in about 20 years at present rate of consumption of fossil fuels. If nothing is done (massive Manhattan project on a world wide scale), then in 50 years the earth will heat up to 3 deg C. At that temperature you can expect tropical areas to be unlivable and huge migrations toward the temperate regions. At 3 deg C most of Florida will be under water.

The good news is that renewable energy costs for multi-megawatt power generation along with storage systems are now cheaper than coal fired power plants. Prices are rapidly falling for wind and solar along with large storage systems to the point where in some areas it is even cheaper than gas fired power.

A northerly, thermally driven migration might actually kick start a complete change in human behaviour. Southern boundaries cannot all be fitted with defenses or impenetrable walls. This would certainly result in the deaths of billions.

So the human race must adapt southerly climes to more comfortable living temperature levels. Present buildings are often completely unsuitable for today's summer temperatures let alone baking temperatures.

Going underground is one option but not exclusive. Reflective, energy reflecting roofing is almost too obvious to mention. White walls are popular in some parts of Greece. Solar shade is a popular arrangement in some countries.

Many roofs are still highly thermally absorbent clay or concrete. The same holds true of Europe. Where there was a major change to matt or glazed black roofing here in Denmark. The very last colour and solar absorber for comfort without energy costly AC. Slate roofs have similar thermal problems and have made life utterly miserable for attic occupants for literally hundreds of years.

White roofs can work miracles in comfort levels in summer but are not very popular because they don't match our children's drawings. Nor do they keep their pristine appearance and reflectivity for long in some environments. Glazed, solar roofs can be made thermally reflective as a weather proof surface without additional protection. Active louvered roofs could absorb a little extra warmth in winter but reflect unwanted solar heat away.

Architects have failed us miserably in their race to win international prizes for deliberately hostile living environments. Their arrogant crimes against humanity have absolutely no defense and should be subject to trial and our strongest sanctions.

Their ridiculously few, low energy buildings are like electric cars. You see a Tesla and look for a moment as the 99% filthy traffic crawls past. A wholesale change is what is required to make ANY difference to our global thermal plight.

Which means the cost has to be reduced to peanuts! For all to enjoy greater comfort while recognizing their own, small, but vital contribution to human survival. Give a man a roof and he can stay dry for a while. Let him build solar electric roofs for the whole community and they can provide shade and shelter. And produce things people actually want right around the globe.

People staying where they are is far cheaper than paying them social security in our own back yards as thermal immigrants. Making their lives more tolerable will result in massive sales of stuff they can't presently afford. Usually because of local and global corruption denying the masses returns form their natural resources.

Nero von Strumpetz fiddles while the world burns. His response to OUR desperate, global need? Ban increasingly affordable Chinese solar panels and waste billions of taxpayer's money on a wall raised merely to inflate his own narcissism.

Failed civilizations often leave behind their crumbling artifacts to the colossal pride of their rulers. The emphasis is on failed. Where are they now?

Your neo-religious conspiracy theories completely undermine any PRIVATE argument against AGW. With so much dirty money sloshing about in the energy supply system and readily available for the corruption of scientists, then where is the queue?

You patently do not understand the multilayered, multi-disciplined, endlessly cross referenced nature of all science. You simply cannot tear one tiny corner of a broadly accepted theory and expect the whole cloth to unravel before your foolishly upturned eyes.

Where would you start with your vast corruption fund? The chemists? The physicists. Those who risk life and comfort working in the Antarctic? The marine biologists? The universities? Which continent would you start with in ylour search for a greedy PHD or professor? With the Chinese? Their scientists are spread around the globe and working in research teams far and wide. As are the French, The Dutch, the Brazilians and those form the USA.

Asking any honest scientist to step out of the shadows of AGW conspiracy with a blatant lie or false data is to pronounce a professional death sentence on their careers.

Everything in science is checked and triple checked to death. Variations from the norm or unexpected data fuels further research. It lights up wise eyes and the internet until confirmed or denied. The scientific world doesn't have the funds to cover up lies via lobbyists and secret board meetings and a bottomless pit of funds for psychopathic lawyers.

If A suggests new idea for XYZ then teams around the globe descend on XYZ to try to disprove that theory. They do so from several disciplines who just live this sort of thing. Understanding every angle is what they live for. IT's why they get up in the morning and why they struggle to sleep at the end of the day.

Professional glory comes not from lying but simply from being correct enough times to hold an unassailable score of rightness across the board.

Those who believe in an AGW conspiracy MUST add fairies, elves, religion and little green men to their lists of beliefs. Belief in anything unreal is called faith. Or religion. Or simply a belief. The onus of proof lies in a belief lies with a believer. Conspiracy theorists are as common as muck. They never did their homework because they are too damned lazy to let their brains do any real work. They prefer to do manual work where they never need to look up at the fantasy world they created for themselves.

Belief in something, no matter how silly, doesn't make it real. No matter how many oddballs you can gather together in a beer cellar and cry for the Moon. All desperate to stop your own, unique, personal sky from falling on your foil hats.

I might suggest you express yourself with rather more obvious humour. Particularly while using a name which suggests a lack of respect for qualification. While simultaneously quoting a resident troll with absolutely no respect for anyone but himself and his petty needs.

I did suspect your real aim, but hate to lose any chance to let off steam. Anger management therapy can appear under many guises and titles. The world's prisons are full of those who never learned to post their life's grievances on s.a.a.

I could never lower myself to use Twitter. The very name says it all and the world has absolutely no need of one more Great Twit. That job had already been bought and paid for by the unashamed borrower of a golden thunderbox. Besides, the art of précis has always eluded me. ;-)
