Default The Sun Today

Shot this with my Canon 7D at UT 17:24 2017.09.06 with the new
equipment I got for the eclipse (Stellarvue 102A on an iOptron
CEM25P). So much smoke in the air that I can almost look directly at
the Sun (11:24 am local), but it seems to be steadying the air (or
it's here because the air is steady).

Wow, very nice.

As far as you know, are any of these spots related to the spots seen on the 21st?

I now see that these 2 sunspot groups were responsible for huge CME's this morning...

https://www.space.com/38057-sun-unle...lar-flare.html

.... first a class X2.2 and then a class X9.3, the biggest in a decade!

I don't think so. It's 16 days since the eclipse, and the equatorial
synodic period is 26 days, so what was visible on the 21st must be on
the far side now, if it has persisted.

A remarkably sharp image even when greatly enlarged.
Congratulations.

You're north of me, on the Front Range, no? I heard the smoke was even
worse up that way the last couple of days.

It's been a bit hazy the past few days. Hoping to see the aurora from
the solar storm anyway, but probably too much city light.
