Default Yee Haa! Ride that telescope - Yerkes 40" is Science image of theweek


Not very high resolution in the free to view version but an interesting
early image of the Yerkes 40" scope during the installation in 1896.

It is actually the dec axis being moved into position.

Interesting.
I just returned from a trip to the Big Island of Hawaii, where some amateurs are in the process of building a 40 inch user-friendly telescope. How far we have come the last 100 years.

Or, I'm sure that contravenes Health and Safety at Work regulations!
