It was done for the opening ceremony. Hardly a serious crime.

A few UK bridges are illuminated some are quite pretty and inside the
light pollution of a major city make no difference to the skies.

Even if it were all the time, that's fine. It would be sad if cities
stopped illuminating their architecture at night.
