Default Latest views from 'Opportunity' on heat shield

Latest views from 'Opportunity' on heat shield, over the weekend:

another view:

What SHOULD the heat shield look like? Does anyone have any images or
drawings
of what the component looked like here when it was being built?

For graphics, why not start at the offical rover site itself?

A nice little graphic here explaining the backshell and heatshield:

A good photo showing the mated heatshield/backshell configuration (the
heatshield is the tannish-colored structure at the very top):

Mind the wordwrap.

Looks like the photos on marsrover.jpl.nasa.gov have "caught up" with
your alternate site, Jim -- check out Raw Images - Opportunity -
Panoramic Camera - Sol 322 -- these are the same shots you posted.

Doesn't look like it made much of a crater (compared to Stardust... of
course, it wasn't as dense or heavy). Maybe we hit the only rock for
miles, and it's leaning up against it...
