Default Deep in a Valley

Those of us that have seen the Grand Canyon with the river flowing at
the bottom all say its awesome. Mars great canyon makes it look like a
trench. Mars canyon is 6 miles deep,and 2800 miles long,and 370 miles
wide. It makes for plenty of room to land a rover. It runs east and
west, and that helps a lot. This very deep canyon would be the very first
place to look for water. The Grand Canyon was carved out by running
water. Being 6 miles below Mars surface has to make it one of Mars most
intriguing places. Much better than inside a shallow dried out old
crater. Well it could have some draw backs such as. Would it be very
dark when the sun is not over head? (it is near the equator) Do shadows
on Mars cast a blacker shadow ?(atmosphere does not scatter light? Our
moon has great contrast in temp. and light with its shadows. Still if
you are going to study a planet looking at the different layers of rock
formation in a canyon can tell you a story about its history. People
spend years in the Grand Canyon doing just that . Mars huge canyon is
called "Valles Marineris" It is names after the Mariner 9 spacecraft
whose cameras recorded it in 1972 Bert

That canyon probably presents some communication link problems as well.
