When did doublethink start in Einsteiniana? From the very beginning: Einstein's 1905 papers implied that the speed of light both depends and does not depend on the speed of the light source:

The lie (the speed of light does not depend on the speed of the light source) was all along one leap ahead of the truth (the speed of light depends on the speed of the light source) so the truth only showed up two times in Einstein's writings - in 1909 and in 1954:

Brian Cox, Jeff Forshaw, p. 236: "If the light falls in strict accord with the principle of equivalence, then, as it falls, its energy should increase by exactly the same fraction that it increases for any other thing we could imagine dropping. We need to know what happens to the light as it gains energy. In other words, what can Pound and Rebka expect to see at the bottom of their laboratory when the dropped light arrives? There is only one way for the light to increase its energy. We know that it cannot speed up, because it is already traveling at the universal speed limit, but it can increase its frequency."

So "light falls" and "its energy should increase by exactly the same fraction that it increases for any other thing we could imagine dropping". This means that light just speeds up, like any falling body:

Light does fall like material bodies, its energy does increase in an analogous manner, but its speed does not increase, only the speed of material bodies increases, the speed of light does not change at all, no it doesn't, how could it change, why should it change, who says it changes, Divine Einstein, yes we all believe in relativity, relativity, relativity..

So the truth does show up behind the lie from time to time - this makes doublethink much more efficient in confusing people's minds than simple lying. Here is the Albert Einstein Institute admitting that the speed of light (as measured by the observer) varies with both the speed of the observer and the gravitational potential, as predicted by Newton's emission theory of light:

A joke? No. Steve Carlip is more than serious - this is exactly what Divine Albert's Divine Theory predicts:

So we have doublethink in Big Brother's world but triplethink in Divine Albert's world: In a gravitational field the speed of light is (1) constant, (2) just as variable as the speed of ordinary falling objects and (3) twice as variable as the speed of ordinary falling objects.
