Nice to see someone in this group still engages in observing. I might get to do some myself now that the cloud cover is breaking here in Florida.

I agree. My monthly trek to observe in the local SoCal desert was thwarted by weather this weekend, so we are hoping that next weekend is better.

On a more exciting note, a group of friends has rented the 60" telescope on Mt. Wilson for an all-night session next September. 8 of us are really looking forward to this!

A group of us JPLers rented the 60" for half a night in March 2012. The
weather was not particularly cooperative, but we did at least get to see
Venus (blindingly bright), Sirius A and B, and the inner part of M42
before the clouds moved in for keeps. The Pup was trivial.

I was most impressed by the way they were able to marry modern
technology and the century-old machinery. And by the sheer size of
their eyepieces. And of course by all the history in the place --
lockers that still carry names like Hubble and Zwicky.

Have fun up there!
