Today's paper says that the Shenzhou V launch also put an
intelligence-gathering satellite in orbit. In addition, the
spacecraft carried an infrared camera. "The camera was mounted
outside the craft and has a resolution of 1.6 meters .."

That "satellite" is the orbital module of the craft that stays in orbit
after seperation from the capsule for (in previous Shenzhou launches)
additional 8-9 months. Similar things (radar, cameras) were flown on
previous Shenzhou missions. Quite a nice idea actually. This way they
have a long-term mission for scientific/military things and still a
human in place in the first phase for initial setup, troubleshooting,
etc.

What do you expect from a dictatorship?

Maybe they're also putting WMD into orbit to rain destruction down on the
enemy (the U.S. and other free nations) - WHERE'S GWB WHEN YOU NEED HIM?
'skuze the sarcasm.
