Default The June Solstice

It wasn't possible to create a necessary adjustment to seasonal cause through the usual channels as the components are so diverse technically and each point so crucial to the overall structure that the old 'tilt' proposition has much the same problems as geocentricity.

In dealing with the daily path of the Sun from horizon to horizon along with the annual motion of the Sun through the Zodiac, Copernicus introduced dual motions to account for each individual observation. In an attempt to mesh predictive astronomy (which relies on the calendar framework) with this new insight, he sacrificed his original correct assertion that the North and South poles scribe a small circle parallel to the orbital plane -

"The third is the motion in declination. For, the axis of the daily rotation is not parallel to the Grand Orb's axis, but is inclined [to it at an angle that intercepts] a portion of a circumference, in our time about 23 1/2°. Therefore, while the earth's center always remains in the plane of the ecliptic, that is, in the circumference of a circle of the Grand Orb, the earth's poles rotate, both of them describing small circles about centers [lying on a line that moves] parallel to the Grand Orb's axis. The period of this motion also is a year, but not quite, being nearly equal to the Grand Orb's [revolution]."

Copernicus , Commentariolus

Not just the North and South poles but the entire surface of the Earth turns parallel to the orbital plane as a function of the planet's orbital motion so the Polar day/night cycle is accounted for where polar sunrise/sunset occurs on the equinoxes and polar noon/midnight happens on the Solstices.

When this surface rotation combines with daily rotation then we have the seasons at lower latitudes. I would consider the adjust to dual surface rotations to be as relevant as the dual rotations which distinguish geocentricity from heliocentricity.

Away from the insight that the planet turns in two distinct ways to the Sun thereby creating the Solstice event today and the seasons, there are interesting elements which have largely been ignored. Perhaps the two major ones draw the most attention - the daily path of the Sun where both the Poles and the Equator are referenced off the orbital plane being one and the unused 'Rule of Twelfths' being another.

The daily path of the Sun referenced off the orbital plane, at least where the Sun comes into view and turns out of sight each day, changes with latitude however the bedrock observation is certainly the equatorial path from equinox to Solstice -

The 'rule of twelfths' is certainly more relevant than the inverse square rule as it has elements that serve both the seasonal declination of the Sun and the tides where the motions are slowest at ebb tide/Solstice and fastest at flow/equinoxes even though tides are daily as opposed to the annual solstice/equinox events.

So much information can be presented on the Solstice event that it is unfortunate that the 'tilted Earth' seems almost a vestigial astronomy for those who are more adventurous with 21st century research tools.

Why is it that the one criminal immigrant who should be in jail is put in charge of the children's jails?
Was he pushed or did he jump before the UNHuman Rights Council expelled the USA?
