I'm embarking on an OU Astronomy course in January and wondered if
anyone here had any experience of this ?

That aside, check out the details of this course

A week in Mallorca, based at this observatory - cool !

Yes, I just finished S283 and had my exam result Thursday. Before that I did
S282 and S198 so I can now apply for a C58 (Cert APS). SXR208 looks fun but
not for me this year, I still have to finish S151 (maths) then bash on with
S207(60 point physics). Good luck with your courses, I thoroughly enjoyed
mine and the course materials are superb.

I'll have a look at those, it's good to know what is in the pipeline so
to speak. Looks like I can't start S282 until 2007 which is a bummer.
S198 looks defunct now. So looks like I will have to pick on something
else towards the C58.

Hopefully I can skip those two as I have A levels in maths and physics,
I may need a refresher course though.

Looking forward to my first bit of correspondence from the OU, Christmas
post permitting !

Hi,

I just completed S197 and S194 - both very interesting and a good lead in to
the higher level courses. Just got my results too :-)

I am planning on doing SXR208 next year - to go with the Level 2 Astronomy
course that I can't remember the number of right now.

All in all, the OU courses seem rather good - you do need to make sure that
you allocate enough time to study properly as opposed to rushing things at
the last minute though....

Thanks for this, with all the help on here I should be able to plan my
study for the next year or two !

Did you take them sequentially or concurrently ?

PS I have no problem with free time, can usually spare 2 hours a day on
this.

Both at the same time. I'm also currently doing the S151 Maths for Science
course to sharpen up my long dormant A-level maths. That was the reason for
the comment about making sure not to leave it 'til the last minute !

I wish I had a bit more time these days....

I'll do one to start with to get an idea of the general difficulty of
the courses.

When your wife runs off with her boss and leaves you with a 1 year old
and a 2 year old you have plenty of time to fill in the evenings after
they have gone to bed...got to do something to occupy my mind you see !
