Default Hudson Valley Home Observatory: When Art Collides with Science

Completed in 2001, this private home observatory may well be worth a few
moments of your time to view.......

John, et al:

There was an article about this observatory in the NY Times a year or two
ago. One of the interesting things pointed out in the article is how much
better the owners found the seeing at the higher level they put the scope
versus on the ground. The observatory was designed with the scope some 12 to
15 feet off the ground to provide a clearer horizon. However, the bigger
benefit is the improvement in seeing gained from getting that high off the
ground. Tim Ferris mentioned the same effect in "Seeing in the Dark".
