KSC Release 47-04

NASA ASTRONAUTS HONOR THREE KSC CIVIL SERVICE WORKERS

Three civil service employees here can credit their hard work and
determination as the reasons for receiving NASA's prestigious Silver Snoopy
Award for service to Space Shuttle astronauts. The recipients are Theresa
M. Keeney, Hung T. Nguyen and Gary P. Snyder.

All the recipients work in the Space Shuttle Processing Directorate.
Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Bob Behnken recognized Keeney for her efforts
in developing the process to loan Shuttle Columbia debris for research and
technical education purposes. Nguyen was honored for offering helpful wiring
suggestions to Shuttle Program management and providing the data to require
wiring inspection in select areas. Snyder was recognized for his efforts in
assembling and leading a team to define the program requirements for
closeout imagery.

Snoopy, of the comic strip "Peanuts," has been the unofficial mascot
of NASA's astronaut corps since the earliest days of human space flight.
The Silver Snoopy Award was created by the astronauts to honor people who
contribute most to the safety and success of human space flight.

The award is presented to no more than 1 percent of the Space
Center's workforce each year. Recipients are given a silver pin depicting
the famous beagle wearing a space suit. All pins flew on a previous Space
Shuttle mission. The awardees also receive a framed certificate and
congratulatory letter signed by the presenting astronaut.
