Well, I've apologised and explained what I was trying to do in good

faith to
all three of you. I've aconowledged your point. However, it seems

'sorry'
doesn't work as you want to keep hittinmg me over the head ad

nauseum. To
be honest, I now think you're about as bloody useful as the original
spammers.
*PLONK*

You can plonk everybody if you like.

One simply does not quote spam or troll messages. This has been covered
so many times as to be completely unworthy of further comment. This is
bog-standard knowledge for anybody with any experience of newsgroups
beyond a week or two.

BTW. Don't use plonk as a threat or show of beligerance. Particularly
against those who have some respect on a group. You may find yourself
alone on the group next time you float a question. We have very, very
long memories. ;-)

Now say Sorry! :-)

Regards
Nime

It's explained in the FAQ! (http://astunit.com/faq/uksciastrofaq.htm). I
had assumed that the FAQ was sufficiently clear on this matter;
apparently not, so if you would like to suggest revised and clearer
wording, please do.

A7. How do I deal with trolls and off-charter posting?

* If you must respond, please do so privately and not on the newsgroup..
* If you wish to complain, please do so to the "Complaints-To:" address
in
the header of the offending post.
* You can also report incidents of net abuse to the newsgroup
news.admin.net-abuse.sightings, using the appropriate posting format.

Best,
Stephen

I'm really not sure what else I can do to set the matter right.

Cancelling your post(s) in which you reposted it verbatim would seem
like an obvious place to start; it will at least prevent anyone else
(assuming their newsfeed responds to cmsg cancel instructions) having to
see it.

Best,
Stephen

Thank you for two constructive posts, Stephen. Two questions (from a
relative newbie to Usenet):

1 - How would I know to look at http://astunit.com/faq/uksciastrofaq.htm to
find the FAQ for this group if you hadn't published it here?

2 - How does one cancel a post already sent to a newsgroup? I thought that
wasn't possible..

Please forgive my naivete, but 'doesn't ask, doesn't learn'.
