Default ION drive and air resistance

The space station wants to have a perfect microgravity environment, right ?

However, air resistance is constantly applying a negative acceleration on the
station, and this requires periodic reboots which give a huge "jolt" compared
to the desired pure acceleration/vibration free environment.

Could today's ION drives provide a constant force that would be in the same
ballpark as the force of air resistance ? If they had an ION drive working all
the time that provided the exact same force air resistance, then not only
would they no longer need reboosts, but wouldn't that also provide a better
micro-gravity environment for research since deceleration due to air
resistance would be eliminated ?
