The moon orbits the Earth much like a plane circles a control tower while the Earth has two distinct rotations to the central Sun as a 100% observational certainty.

The difference between orbital motion and rotation is that in respect to orbital motion, all parts of an object move at the same speed whereas rotation has a maximum circumference speed and reduces to zero at the center or either poles if a spherical object.

Analogies are great to the point that they do not equate directly with experimental sciences and especially in the astronomical realm where analogies are appropriate but unrestricted hypotheses between experiments and large scale structures and motions are not -

"Rule III. The qualities of bodies, which admit neither [intensification] nor remission of degrees, and which are found to belong to all bodies within the reach of our experiments, are to be esteemed the universal qualities of all bodies whatsoever." Newton

I know the intransigence that offers no softening of the approaches needed to deal with 21st century concerns as nobody wants to talk and that is a shame as few could move between the different frameworks that distinguish not only technical perspectives but historical perspectives as well.

I learn new things every day!
The - axis - keeps the earth orbiting around the Sun!
