Terraforming Mars
When I read about terraforming Mars I have the same question as when I
see those hair transplant infomercials. Why would a new covering survive when the old one didn't? Jim |

Jim The short answer is that the orignal atmosphere of mars took hundreds of millions if not a few billion years to errode away to nothing.... Now, IF there is enough frozen carbon dioxide and water at the poles you could in theory melt it and create a decently thick atmosphere..... But that atmosphere still would not last long.....but it would probably last many hundreds of thousands years.....which is plenty long enough ! Also note that even a crudy 5 psi atmosphere of pure CO2 would be a vast improvement....it would GREATLY decrease the amount of radiation on the surface....and you could wander around with just an oxygen mask and some cold weather clothing.....certainly an improvement over wearing a spacesuit! take care Blll |

Terraforming Mars
Jim Coughlin:
When I read about terraforming Mars I have the same question as when I see those hair transplant infomercials. Why would a new covering survive when the old one didn't? When you read about "terraforming" Mars you are reading science fiction. Mars will not be "terraformed." Davoud -- usenet *at* davidillig dawt com |

Terraforming Mars
You are assuming that Mars _can_ be terraformed. This, I believe, is an
empty dream, which serves only to emphasize man's conceit in believing that he can take on such a monumental task. This is much like the ant floating down the river on his back with an erection yelling, open up the drawbridge. Al "Jim Coughlin" wrote in message om...
